"Refractions Volume I" is a symbiotic audio/visual project created by Jake Allen (music) and Jennifer Mann (paintings). The paintings and songs were created in response to each other. Some of these collaborative pieces started with a song from Jake which Jennifer would translate into a painting. Others started with a painting from Jennifer which Jake would translate into a song.

This project is an exploration into synesthesia, a perceptual phenomenon in which stimulation of one sensory or cognitive pathway leads to involuntary experiences in a second sensory or cognitive pathway.
